Benchmark U.S. crude oil for September delivery fell 84 cents to $96.42 a barrel Thursday.

Brent crude for September delivery rose $2.22 to $106.62 a barrel.

Wholesale gasoline for August delivery rose 4 cents to $3.46 a gallon. August heating oil fell 3 cents to $3.69 a gallon. September natural gas fell 55 cents to $8.13 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Gold for August delivery rose $31.20 to $1,750.30 an ounce. Silver for September delivery rose $1.27 to $19.96 an ounce and September copper rose 5 cents to $3.47 a pound.

The dollar fell to 134.35 Japanese yen from 136.43 yen. The euro fell to $1.017 from $1.019.
