BRISBANE, Australia—Ms. Lin Ching-Ping, a classical Chinese dance teacher from Taiwan, attended the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts show at Queensland Conservatorium Theatre in Brisbane, Australia on April 11. Ms. Lin commented that Shen Yun demonstrated an exceptional performance, and she and her husband were both deeply moved.

Ms. Lin was attracted to Shen Yun’s costumes and backdrops. She commented that the unique scenery on stage, combined with gorgeous costumes, high-tech backdrop, and the magnificent bold, bright colors, brought back the characteristics of Tang-period music and dance.

Preservation of Classical Chinese Culture

Through studying classical Chinese dance, Ms. Lin understood that the preservation of Chinese classical dance is a profound task, which keeps the original appearance of classical Chinese dance within today’s understanding of the art form. This process requires constantly creating new programs while keeping the original format of classical Chinese dance. She said that Shen Yun successfully created a new art form in a profound way, which can be regarded as a model for many who study classical Chinese dances.

A New Combination of Classical Arts and Digital Technology

Ms. Lin stated that performing arts have always tried to make use of the available technologies of the itmes. These days, the stage has been turned into a complex digital environment. Shen Yun skillfully combined classical Chinese arts with digital technology, creating atunning backdrops, which synchronize with the dance performance. Using digital technology in the creation of performing arts, the entire performance was well-presented artistically and technically.

Expression of Inner Spirit

Ms. Lin said the evaluation of dance can fall into three categories—good dance, beautifully formed dance, and attractive dance. Professional dancers can only earn extra points for their superb dancing techniques. Whether the dancers can truly express their feelings through their dancing skills is the key to touch the audience. Every movement of the Shen Yun artists that expresses tthese feelilngs have touched the audience members’ hearts. She felt that especially in the dance Persecuted on a Sacred Path,  the dancers used their dance and their ability to express their firm belief. They even moved audience members to tears.

Multifaceted Performing Ensemble

Ms. Lin has had a strong passion for classical Chinese dance throughout her dance career. This was her first time watching a Shen Yun performance. She observed that the entire performance, including choreography, music, costumes, digitally-animated backdrops, and backstage production, were collectively managed and conducted through the whole Shen Yun ensemble. She said that Shen Yun has won a good reputation all over the world.
