VANCOUVER, British Columbia—Wang Yingyang, events director of the Vancouver Chinese Cultural Centre, was struck by the Shen Yun Performing Arts show she attended at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday afternoon.

“I think the matinee today truly manifested the essence of our Chinese culture. I think Shen Yun can make the audiences really enjoy the authentic traditional Chinese culture through dance, music, and song. I think the show today was extremely good. I also admire the multiple ethnicities featured. There were the Tibetan dance, Mongolian dance—I absolutely enjoyed them. I think today’s Shen Yun Performing Arts show was a very, very high calibre performance among those that I’ve seen,” she said after watching the show.

Chinese classical dance, the centrepiece of the Shen Yun shows, is among the most comprehensive dance systems in the world alongside ballet. It is known for its expressiveness in addition to its training of strength and flexibility.

Although she has seen many Chinese shows, regarding Shen Yun, Ms. Wang said, “I think this is a unique show, because it was very gentle, the spirituality was there. The dances were quite different from others, and it depicted traditional stories, such as the famous Journey to the West. They linked all these stories together on stage for Westerners to learn about our tales. I think it was fantastic.”

She concluded by saying the show was “unique, fantastic, and it made me intrigued.”
