NEW YORK—The latest Thai eatery to look out for is a cafe in Clinton, Larb Ubol.

It’s a great place for cheap, regional Thai food. It serves dishes from the region of Isaan, in Thailand’s northeast corner. The area represents about 30 percent of the country’s population, according to Larb Ubol’s website.

Its popularity is parallel to that of bistro restaurants such as Pok Pok and Zabb Elee, according to Eater NY.

Larb Ubol offers a galore of specials for $8-$9 for lunch and $9-$12 for dinner, such as the egg noodle with roasted pork, lump crab meat, and yu choy ($9). They also serve a varied selection of shredded green papaya salads ($10 to $12).

Chef’s specials include delicacies such as sauteed clams with garlic, basil, bell peppers in creamy chili sauce ($14); Thai eggplant, with pepper corn, basil, wild ginger with spicy curry paste ($15).
