WASHINGTON—An executive treated his family to Shen Yun at the Kennedy Center Opera House on Jan. 22, and he was pleased to do it. “Our daughter wanted to the see the show last year, and the year before. We didn’t get a chance to come. This year she is a little older and we came,” said Mr. Yousif Mostafa.

Mr. Mostafa is president and CEO of Digital Connectors, a cyber security company. His wife, Kathy Mostafa, is an IT security consultant. He said that their daughter was “mesmerized by the different costumes, the dance and the culture. She really enjoyed it.”

The child, asked if she had learned something, said “Yes! I learned that they wore heels,” referring to the dance Manchurian Grace. In it, a majestic hall is “home to a group of Manchurian princesses. Gliding between the pillars with practiced ease, sporting regalia of elaborate headdresses and elevated “flower pot” shoes, their every step is the impeccable embodiment of grace,” according to the program.

Mr. Mostafa said, “It was beautiful and lovely. We really experienced the true Chinese culture. We really enjoyed a lot of different scenes, such as the one of the Yellow River [High Spirits at the Yellow River].”

Both parents would recommend the performance to other parents with children.

Ms. Mostafa said, “Our daughter actually was the one who inspired us to come tonight.” She would tell parents who consider bringing their children to see it, “The Shen Yun show is a very nice show with vivid colors, nice costumes, and it brings Chinese culture to its audiences.”

Mr. Mostafa added, “With a history of thousands of years.”
