In this fascinating new CD, the much underrated Dubois is paired with Cédric Tiberghien as a new edition to the well regarded Hyperion Romantic Piano series. From Dubois’ era and nationality you might expect the softly layered tones of his contemporaries e.g. Faure and Ravel, but not so. This is one for the Russian Masters fans, think Scriabin and Glazunov with even an occasional nod to Brahms. A feisty, passionate selection of piano pieces, performed with the necessary lightness of touch and fiery assurance by Tiberghien. If this work is anything to go on it seems unlikely either Frenchman will remain unknown to the wider world for long.
