Hyperactive, wildly eclectic and frankly quite mad, Courtcase 2000 could be seen by some as the product of some overly precocious and time rich students. However this would be a harsh summary of what is an inventive and constantly involving album. ‘Foxes’, the band’s debut single, encapsulates what Cats in Paris are all about, shifting between casio electronics, laidback strings and a kitsch horror finale. ‘Goojfc’ is another classic example of a Cats’ tune in that its conclusion bears very little resemblance to its beginning. There is no blueprint for this music and it is quite different to anything else you’ll hear this year.
