NEW YORK—An exhibition featuring winter landscape paintings by Japanese painter Mototaka Takano opened at the Nippon Club in Manhattan on Wednesday.
Takano “is well-known for his winter landscape paintings such as fishing villages and fish markets in northeastern Japan,” according to a release.
Takano has been painting winter scenes for 32 years, and particularly likes to draw in the northern cities of Aomori, where he spends most of his time, and Hokkaido.
“I want to introduce Aomori City to New York,” he said at his exhibition opening on Wednesday. His exhibition of 50 paintings includes subjects revolving around winter and the coast, such as the rough sea, a snowy fishing port, and the gloomy winter sky.
The Nippon Club was founded in 1905 and says that it “strives to tighten the unity of the Japanese community and strengthen the relationship between the United States and Japan.”
