As a part of a social experiment, former NASA engineer Mike Meacham went up to different people at a park and offered them a chocolate chip cookie, which he then proceeded to drop on the ground.

After seeing the cookie fall on the ground, most refused to eat it, and the one person who did was chastised by his significant other for being gross.

It's commonly said that dropped food is still good if it's been on the ground for less than five seconds, and that proverb has some scientific basis.
