TrumpRx Provides Lower Prescription Drug Prices

Americans pay some of the highest drug prices in the world. Here’s how TrumpRx aims to lower costs for uninsured patients.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Center for Health Statistics reported that 49.9 percent of Americans have used at least one prescription drug in the last 30 days. And according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), prescription drugs accounted for $5.3 trillion in 2024, or 18 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP).

Americans consistently pay more for prescription drugs than the rest of the world. In 2024, RAND Health published a comparison of prescription drugs. Using 2022 data, the RAND researchers found that U.S. drug prices were almost three times higher than those in 33 other high-income countries.

To help address price disparities, the Trump administration unveiled a new drug-pricing initiative called TrumpRx.

Executive Order Delivers Most-Favored-Nation Drug Pricing

According to President Donald Trump’s May 2025 executive order, the United States, which has less than 5 percent of the world’s population, funds approximately three-quarters of global pharmaceutical profits.

This executive order states that the secretary of commerce and the U.S. trade representative shall take necessary and appropriate action to prohibit unreasonable or discriminatory practices that may impair U.S. national security and force Americans to pay a disproportionate share of global pharmaceutical research and development.

This includes “suppressing the price of pharmaceutical products below fair market value in foreign countries,” according to the executive order.

Trump’s executive order established most-favored-nation (MFN) pricing in the United States to align prices for American patients with those in comparably developed nations.

As part of MFN pricing, TrumpRx was established for uninsured Americans.

TrumpRx Lists Discounted Drugs

TrumpRx is a website that American consumers can use to search for discounted, MFN prices on brand-name medications without the need of insurance. In other words, the website is for “self-pay,” or sometimes called “cash-pay,” consumers.

However, you cannot purchase these prescription drugs directly from the TrumpRx website. Instead, it allows American consumers to print drug manufacturer coupons that can be used at retail pharmacies.

Some of the discounted drugs are available via direct-to-consumer (DTC) options on the manufacturer’s website.

A valid prescription from the consumer’s doctor is still required to fill the prescription. The availability of DTC pricing on the TrumpRx website doesn’t affect how prescriptions are sent from providers to pharmacies. TrumpRx doesn’t collect, handle, or transfer prescriptions.

The terms and conditions on the TrumpRx website indicate that coupons can’t be used in California or Massachusetts. That’s because their state laws prohibit the use of prescription drug coupons unless a generic equivalent is unavailable.

Which Drugs Are Listed on the TrumpRx Website?

According to the TrumpRx website, many commonly prescribed name-brand drugs are listed. Some of these are fertility, menopause, COPD, and weight-loss drugs, and include:

• Ozempic pen: prefilled pen with original starting price at $1,027.51; TrumpRx price: $199
• Wegovy pill: original starting price $1,349.02; TrumpRx price: $149
• Prempro pill: original price $254.30; TrumpRx price: $98.84
• Bevespi inhaler: original price $458.05; TrumpRx price: $51
• Cetrotide prefilled syringe + vial: original price $316.12; TrumpRx price: $22.50

As of March 4, the TrumpRx website listed 43 different name-brand prescription drugs from five manufacturers.

Although not all prescription drug discounts are currently available on TrumpRx, more will be available soon.

How Does TrumpRx Work?

As previously mentioned, TrumpRx doesn’t sell prescription drugs. Your doctor will need to send prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice. There you will receive the discounted price.

Go on the TrumpRx website and select the prescription drug you need. If a coupon is available, you can print the coupon and present it at your pharmacy to claim your savings. Another option is to download the coupon to your mobile phone’s wallet.

In some instances, a coupon isn’t available because you must go directly to the pharmaceutical’s website. For example, with the weight-loss drug Zepbound vial, Eli Lilly and Co. manages all Zepbound single-vial orders through LillyDirect. There is a link on the TrumpRx website that takes you directly to LilllyDirect’s website. TrumpRx also has links to other manufacturers.

You don’t need to create an account or register to access TrumpRx discount pricing. You must see a doctor to receive a valid prescription for a pharmacy to dispense the drug to you. There is no charge to use the TrumpRx website.

Self-Pay vs. Insurance for Prescription Drugs

TrumpRx is for consumers who pay for prescriptions without insurance. The discounts cannot be used with insurance. However, if your health insurance doesn’t cover a drug, you can use TrumpRx to help discount the prescription’s price.

You also may use TrumpRx instead of insurance if you think the drug’s price would be lower with the discount. But keep in mind that the funds you use to purchase the drug with TrumpRx won’t apply to your insurance deductible.

Uninsured Americans Save Money on Prescription Drugs

Whether you are uninsured or your insurance doesn’t cover a specific drug, TrumpRx can help you with brand-name prescription costs.

The savings can come from using a coupon or from the drug manufacturer. But you’ll still need to have a valid prescription from your healthcare provider.
