All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was launched in January 2019 to challenge World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) dominance in professional wrestling. (Before 2002, WWE was known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF)). AEW has generated an enthusiastic cult following but has yet to rival the older promotion’s visibility and popularity.

This challenge is a mighty task considering that WWE  has been anchored at the center of popular culture since the original WrestleMania events of the mid-1980s.
