Country singer-songwriter Bill Anderson, better known as “Whispering Bill” thanks to his gentle voice, viewed country music’s most historic live music venue as more than a stage. For Anderson and his fellow artists who have had the honor of being invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, it’s a sacred opportunity.
“The Grand Ole Opry, to a country singer, is what Yankee Stadium is to a baseball player. Broadway to an actor. It’s the top of the ladder, the top of the mountain. You don’t just play the Opry; you live it,” he said.
