A band likened to almost every other, dare I say it, “epic”-sounding alternative act from the UK in the last 20 years, Swimming have big boots to fill.

They make a manful effort of it on their debut album; from the driving opener ‘Panthalassa’ this is a record not lacking in confidence.

‘9 Sky Open’ is decent shoegazey indie, and recent single ‘Crash the Current’ has the ethereal sensibility of Mercury Rev channelled through an Oceansize style racket.

However overall it fails to beguile in the way it seems intended, but despite this its ambition should be applauded.

A band worth keeping an eye on.
