Each year, hundreds of thousands of American servicemen and servicewomen spend the Christmas holiday away from their families. In December 2024, Norfolk news outlet 13News Now reported that “more than 200,000 U.S. military members” were deployed for the holiday season, covering “all seven continents” and “more than 170 countries.”

Christmas songs often focus on the family members we get to visit during the holidays, but country singer Josh Turner’s single “Soldier’s Gift” shines a light on those we often don’t get to see—the soldiers. Servicemen offer civilians the gift of protection so American families can celebrate the festive season in peace.
