Six Flags Magic Mountain is tearing a page from the Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm playbooks with a series of food festivals designed to offer a more premium experience as the amusement park chain seeks to target a more affluent audience.

Thrill seekers looking for a break from the 20 roller coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain can take a culinary trip around the world to seven different countries this summer without ever stepping foot outside the Valencia amusement park.

The Flavors of the World food festival runs from noon to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 13 at Magic Mountain.

The seven Flavors of the World festival booths scattered throughout Magic Mountain are intended to evoke the sights, sounds, and smells of lively street markets in India, Greece, France, Italy, China, Korea and the Caribbean.

Magic Mountain visitors can sample three dozen traditional foods and drinks from the festival booths using a Sip & Savor Passport good for 8 samples ($50) or 12 samples ($65). That works out to $6.25 per item with the 8-sample passport and $5.40 per item with the 12-sample passport.

The food fest game plan borrows from the snack-and-stroll playbooks of Disney and Knott’s. Disney California Adventure offers a lineup of back-to-back food festivals in winter and spring before the bigger crowds descend while Knott’s spreads the food fests throughout the year in a never-ending conga line of culinary events.

The food festivals are part of Six Flags CEO Selim Bassoul’s strategy to upgrade the amusement park chain’s guest experience and appeal to an audience with deeper pockets after years of heavy discounting.

Six Flags is also rolling out the Flavors of the World food festivals at New Jersey’s Great Adventure, Illinois’ Great America, and San Antonio’s Fiesta Texas along with other parks in the chain.
