Shen Yun Performing Arts, renowned for its performances around the world, invites audiences to witness the exclusive online premiere of its “2025 Mid-Autumn Festival Technique Showcase,” featuring its top dancers and rising stars. This must-see event will stream live on Gan Jing World on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
Filmed during the Mid-Autumn Festival at Shen Yun’s headquarters, the showcase highlights the world’s highest standard of classical Chinese dance. It aims to offer audiences “the chance to witness the art form behind the global phenomenon,” according to the online event description.

“This showcase features the pinnacle of classical Chinese dance technique—shen-dai-shou (’the body leads the hands’) and kua-dai-tui (’the hips lead the legs’),” it states. “These techniques allow dancers to generate powerful, sweeping movement from the body, enhancing expression and stage presence, and blending strength, precision, and elegance into every motion—whether in leaps, spins, or gravity-defying flips.”

“We warmly invite you to join us on Gan Jing World for this special presentation—a rare opportunity to witness Shen Yun dancers’ artistry and mastery up close. Do not miss it,” states the event page.

Founded nearly 20 years ago and based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts has taken the lead in classical Chinese dance and music worldwide. It consists of eight touring companies, all of equal size, which perform in more than 200 cities across five continents with a new performance every year. Last year, Shen Yun performed for more than 1 million audience members, with tickets selling out in numerous cities, often months in advance.

The company’s stated mission is to revive China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture, much of which has been lost or suppressed under communist rule.

“Over the past decades, the Chinese Communist Party has treated traditional culture as a threat to its rule. Through campaigns like the Cultural Revolution, it has systematically uprooted traditional beliefs and destroyed ancient treasures, bringing 5,000 years of civilization to the brink of extinction,” states Shen Yun’s website.

Shen Yun’s performances often touch on themes of faith, virtue, and resistance to repression, including depictions of the persecution of Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, which is a spiritual practice that is followed by many of its artists.

According to the Falun Dafa Information Center, Shen Yun has been subject to 140 documented incidents of interference from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its agents worldwide, including diplomatic pressure, cyberattacks, and threats against theaters and officials.
Examples of the sabotage that the CCP and its proxies have carried out against the artists include a slashed tour bus tire in Montreal that endangered the lives of 40 performers and a choreographer’s home in New York being broken into, with only laptops with choreography files stolen. An erhu soloist’s husband was also abducted by secret police in Shanghai, and he vanished into a labor camp before he could join her in the United States.

“Though the persecution has persisted for twenty-six years, our conviction has never wavered,” Shen Yun artists said. “Through performance, we continue to convey beauty and compassion, hoping that one day this injustice will come to an end.”

The showcase will be available to watch on Gan Jing World.
