NEW YORK—When a man who looks at and creates designs all day says something is designed well, he means it.
And so it was with Ely Horen, an interior designer by profession who saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Doch Theater on June 26—the final performance in the company’s special run here.
“I thought the costumes were done beautifully,” Mr. Horen said. “As a designer, I thought it was done very well.”
He also thought that “the background was very informative;” that there were “very talented people involved;” and that “the choreography was done very well.”
“It’s the first time I’ve ever been to something like this,” he said with a note of audible appreciation for the New York-based company’s best of the best highlights from the last five seasons, the website says.
Mary Molfetta, a registered nurse who also saw the show, shared “I didn’t think I would be as taken with it as I am,” she said. “It’s very spiritual … it brought me into that place of spirituality.”
She continued: “And when you think of all of the thousands of millennium that have passed and where they came from and where it’s taken us to now—I have chills.”
Molfetta came to see the classical Chinese dance and music presentation with her daughter, who is very interested in Chinese culture, and who also adored Shen Yun.
Roman Ostrowski, a doctor, was another attendee who also brought his daughter, Diana, aged 5.
Diana said of Shen Yun: “I liked the girls, how they danced!”
When asked to specify which performance she liked most, she simply responded by shouting: “I liked all of them!”
Her father had more to say. “I liked it very much. I think they dance very well; they’re amazing. It’s amazing how well they danced. With the colors and the costumes my daughter was mesmerized. She loved it. We’re glad we could attend … They’re so impressive” he said.
In a show of appreciation the audience stood in ovation and clapped continuously through a curtain call at the end.
The artists graciously reciprocated with waves before the last curtain fell on the final performance bringing the 2011 World Tour to an end.
