SYDNEY, Australia—Ms. Zgravka, an economist, saw Shen Yun at the Parade Theatre in Sydney with her daughter Lara on Sunday, April 19, and thought the New York-based company was delivering the message young people should be hearing.

“I loved it. It’s an awakening to youth not to forget the old culture,” she said.

She said she did not know much about Chinese culture, but she was glad to have seen it through Shen Yun’s performance.

Ms. Zgravka said the principles presented through Shen Yun’s portrayal of traditional Chinese culture were universal and the sorts of qualities traditional culture embodied.

“You never forget your old culture,” she said.

Originally from Croatia, Ms. Zgravka said she cried when she saw Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, as the communist oppressors were very real.

The scene is a glimpse into the reality of contemporary China, and shows the persecution of a Falun Gong practitioner in China.

“I really cried when communism was coming. Very touching. We were touched to know that it is happening now.”

Lara added that she was shocked to find out that such things were happening in China today.

Ms. Zgravka said they had both been impressed with the costumes, which they thought were beautiful, and the dancing, and had particularly liked the opening scene The Five Millennia Begin.

“Really gracious, the old spirit of culture,” she said.

Mr. Heuke, a retired clerk also saw Shen Yun at the matinee session and found it “extremely good, extremely enjoyable.”

I find it beautiful, the costumes, bright music, the singing, especially the tenor—he was wonderful.”

Mr. Heuke said he had some experience of Chinese shows beforehand, but they could not be compared to Shen Yun’s performance.

“This is far bigger and brighter and better yes, very good indeed. Every part I have seen so far has been fantastic.”

He said he would be sure to tell his friends to come and see Shen Yun saying, “I will say that this is a wonderful show, that you must see it because it has come from so far away … with so many wonderful people putting on a great performance.”
