ROCHESTER, New York—Shen Yun Performing Arts was greeted by warm and enthusiastic applause after successfully concluding the first of three shows at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 27.

The audience, in what’s known as the “City of Flowers,” braved the snow and gave the Shen Yun performers a very lively response.

Shen Yun features classical Chinese dance which includes ethnic and folk dance. Accompanying the dances is a live orchestra, combining Western and Eastern instruments, and another feature of the performance includes world-renowned vocal soloists.

Mr. Terry, a martial artist, attended Shen Yun this afternoon and found it “very, very colorful.”

Mr. Terry, who’s been practicing martial arts for the past 10 years, says he was stricken by the aerial techniques and tumbling movements.

“The dancing was great,” said Mr. Terry. “In fact, what struck me was the one young lady in one routine.” He said he was so surprised by the challenging leg movements she could perform. “I had to take another look because I was looking and, wow, [I thought] is that her leg doing something like that? They’ve got some great abilities,” he continued.

Mr. Terry also enjoyed the concentration of the dancers, as well as their colorful costumes.

“Very energetic show, I’d see it again.” he concluded.

Also in attendance was Dr. James Brooks, a psychologist who brought his wife Sandra to the afternoon show.

“It was very colorful. Certainly lively,” said Dr. Brooks. “Kind of like eye candy.”

He said he enjoyed the synchronization of the dancers and the way they performed in unison.

Dr. Brooks described his first impression of watching Shen Yun.

“I thought they’re very beautiful people. I can see their faces very clearly, and they’re all beautiful people. They have so much energy that they’re putting into this, but they don’t show being out of breath, so they must be very good athletes as well. Very good condition,” noted Dr. Brooks.

Dr. Brooks was pleased with what he saw and recommended the show to others.

“This is the first time I’ve seen a show like this, so I would come again, and I would certainly tell others about it in the hopes that they would see something outside of our culture.”

“Magnificent,” added his wife.

Shen Yun Performing Arts will perform two more shows at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2:00.
