DETROIT—Shen Yun Performing Arts was greeted by warm applause as it performed its first show this year at the Detroit Opera House.

At the start of its 2010 World Tour, New York-based Shen Yun brought to Michigan for the third time a repertoire of all-new programs of classical Chinese dance, vocal soloists, and orchestra.

Mr. Bratic, the owner of an energy efficiency company, brought his young daughter to see the show this afternoon.

“I think it’s fabulous ... just the dancing and how colorful the show is and all the costumes,” Bratic said.

He said he also enjoyed the techniques of the dancing. “It’s not something you typically see in a normal show. I enjoy it,” said Mr. Bratic.

Mr. Bratic’s daughter especially enjoyed the costumes. “I’ve never seen anything more fabulous in my whole life,” she said.

The Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra combines both Chinese and Western instruments and plays originally composed scores for each dance.

Mr. Bratic particularly enjoyed the music. “Very relaxing,” he said.

Shen Yun Performing Arts has three companies touring the world. The International Company will perform two more shows at the Detroit Opera House: Saturday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m, and Sunday, Jan. 3, at 4:00 p.m.
