CINCINNATI—Shen Yun’s Saturday night performance at Cincinnati’s famed Music Hall couldn’t come soon enough for local resident and renowned gospel singer Kay Barksdale.

“I couldn’t hardly wait all day just waiting for the time that I could get here, and after getting here—man, it is beautiful. Beautiful colors and the performance is just overwhelming. I can’t express it enough.”

Ms. Barksdale, affectionately known as “Cincinnati’s Gospel Jewel”, is famous for her ringing soprano voice, which inspires audiences both nationally and internationally and is a testament to her devotion to God. She has won many awards for her singing, including an Award from the National Federation of Music and a Gospel Academy Award of Excellence.

As a professional singer who has also performed at the Cincinnati Music Hall, Ms. Barksdale could fully appreciate the mastery of the songs performed during Shen Yun.

“Both were spectacular. I‘ll tell you, it was just super. That’s the best I can give you on that one. It’s super. I put myself in the place when the lady was singing, because I have to make high notes when I sing and I thought, ’Man, I need to take lessons from her, maybe she could help me with the high notes.' She was great.”

Ms. Barksdale said she saw Shen Yun last year and was so impressed that she brought some of her friends from Channel Nine TV station where she works.

“I’ve been promoting this to all my friends, [I said] ‘Please come, this is only one night.’ So I brought some friends with me and they’re here and this is the first time that they have been here, and they’re just enjoying themselves, just like I am.”

When asked what she would tell other people about the show, Ms. Barksdale replied: “Wherever this show is, I suggest—I demand—that you go and partake of it, because you would have loved every moment of being here to watch the show and performers, and you will want to wait and you can hardly wait until next year when they'll come back here again. So please come, please go, please see it wherever the performance is in your town. Wherever, go and see this show!”
