BRISBANE, Australia—Ms Pae, the president of the Australian Burmese Association, was among the VIP guests at the Thursday evening performance of Shen Yun in Brisbane.

It was the first time Ms Pae had seen Shen Yun, and she marvelled at its beauty.

“You can always remember beautiful things.

“They [the dancers] look like they’re all smiling. ... It was so amazing, I love it,” she said.

Ms Pae said Shen Yun was quite different from anything she had seen before, noting how the New York-based group had combined important themes in the dance format.

She said she had not expected to see traditional Chinese culture presented in this way and was excited to have discovered it.

“The message—I can tell it is Chinese culture. I have to tell some people to come next time. … I don’t know how to say, but it’s a really, really amazing show. I love it,” she said.

Brisbane dance school teacher, Ms Ellis also attended the Shen Yun performance and brought some of her young students with her.

Ms Ellis has been teaching dance for over 25 years. She has seen a little classical Chinese dance but said, “Nothing like this [before]”.

“They are just so graceful. The costumes are amazing, and the way it is put together. It was really great”.

Her students were also happy to be at the show.

Eight-year-old Betheena said it was really good. She loved the costumes and her favourite performance was The Monkey King Triumphs.

Seven-year-old Kate had been dancing for five years, and thought that she was almost as flexible as the Shen Yun dancers.

Twelve-year-old Sarah, who has been dancing for a couple of years, was an elite gymnast before she took up dancing. She really felt that traditional Chinese culture was special, saying that she has a Chinese background. She felt that the show would give her something to aspire to. “It will give me something to think of going towards,” she said.
