PURCHASE, N.Y.—The Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase is a four-theatre complex. It is considered the main center of nonprofit arts in the southeastern New York and southwestern Connecticut regions. It is also the largest program in the State University of New York system.

Each of the four theaters are designed to accommodate different types of performances, allowing for broad versatility in the types of events that the Center can host.

The Center has been in operation for thirty years and celebrated its 2007-2008 season with a series of over 90 professional performances in classical and popular music, dance, theatre, family, jazz, orchestral, cinema, and multi-cultural genres. About 50,000 attended, in addition to 14,000 children from 150 area schools who attended over 20 Arts-in-Education events.

New work and master classes at the Center are supported through generous artist residencies. Musical presentations feature both leading and emerging artists. In dance, the Center is considered a major regional hub. Past programs have included exclusive area appearances of several important traditional, contemporary, and folkloric companies.

Ongoing Center initiatives include artist partnerships, residency activities, and commissions. The Center is also creating opportunities for students to participate in the artistic process, with a focus on educational opportunities for K-12 students and multi-generational learners.

Future and ongoing goals of the Center are focused on their work to keep efforts alive in the community to make the arts more accessible to a wide range of audiences.
