[xtypo_dropcap]F[/xtypo_dropcap]ried chicken has always been an essential part of American food. Today, with New York being the dynamic capital of globalization, a Korean fried chicken franchise called KyoChon has given fast food a new definition.
KyoChon emerged as the pioneer fried chicken franchise in Korea about 20 years ago. Today, KyoChon has over 1,000 restaurants in Korea and is always regarded as one of the most popular food franchises in that part of the world.
Currently, there are seven KyoChon restaurants in the United States. One of them is located on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. Here, chicken is served in a friendly, fashionable, and timely manner.
KyoChon’s chicken is different. The chicken is from young hens that are raised on a free-range farm in upstate New York. As a result, the meat is extremely juicy and tender.
In addition, KyoChon chefs fry the chicken twice in trans-fat-free canola oil, and the sauce is hand-brushed on. Not a bit of salt or pepper is needed; the uniqueness lies in the preservation of the original taste.
Fried chicken at KyoChon comes with a choice of three different types of sauces: soy garlic sauce, hot and sweet sauce, and honey sauce.
The soy garlic sauce is a combination of sweetness and the delicious aroma of garlic. It is often the most preferred sauce.
The hot and sweet sauce is exclusively made with green pepper by KyoChon. It is strong and leaves a numbing sensation on the lips, making you crave for more.
Last but not least, the honey sauce, which other Korean fried chicken restaurants often do not have, adds a honey flavor to the chicken that suits both children and adults alike.
KyoChon also recently added grilled wings to the menu to promote healthiness. Each order of chicken is served with pickled radish. Prices for wings are affordable. Five pieces are $5.99, while ten pieces are $9.99, and twenty pieces $17.99.
A variety of other dishes, both American and Korean, also can be found on the menu. KyoChon has chicken sandwiches, grilled steaks, and the classic Korean rice balls. My favorite, other than the fried chicken, has to be the Sal Sal Chicken Salad served with crispy chicken balls, vegetables, and sticky rice in sweet vinegar sauce.
KyoChon is fast food, so most orders are served in 8 to 10 minutes.
In the evening, the atmosphere becomes more lively as popular Korean music videos are played on the second floor. Korean music is now a universal favorite, and young people love to come to KyoChon where they can find both good chicken and Korean pop.
KyoChon also offers delivery from 14th Street to 59th Street, between 1st and 9th Avenue.
