A K-9 unit and her handler saved a girl who was abducted in Southern California, police said this week.

The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department posted on its Facebook page that Deja, the K-9, and handler Josh Stone, responded to a call of a 16-year-old girl being taken from her house at around 3 a.m.

Drag marks and the girl’s purse were found near the home, police said on Tuesday.

“Deja started tracking the juvenile from the drag marks. Deja trailed through a wooded area and up to a house. Deja followed the juvenile’s scent all of the way up to the front door and would not leave,” the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department stated.

Deja was able to locate the girl inside the residence with the male suspect.

The suspect, who was not named at the time, was arrested on kidnapping charges.

According to ABC7, the suspect was identified as 18-year-old Logan Padberg. He was booked into the Central Detention Center on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic battery, and unlawful sex with a minor. He’s being held on $250,000 bail, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s website says.

The person who called the police was the girl’s grandmother, who reported her as a missing runaway, ABC7 reported.
