British rock band Muse won the Grammy for Best Rock Album with The Resistance at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
The Resistance beat out Emotion And Commotion by Jeff Beck, Backspacer by Pearl Jam, Mojo by Tom Petty, and Le Noise by Neil Young.
Alt-rock band Muse, which performed earlier in the night, was nominated for three Grammys but only won Best Rock Album. Muse lost Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals to The Black Keys and Best Rock Song to Neil Young’s Le Noise.
The Resistance, which was released in fall 2009, was a best-seller that was lauded by critics. It topped charts in the U.K. and reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Earlier in the night, rock band Train won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocals for its live rendition of “Hey, Soul Sister,” and country singer Miranda Lambert won her first Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
The Grammy Awards, which telecast on CBS, Sunday at 8 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. PST, are considered the most prestigious award of the American recording industry.
