On the surface, “Fresh, Green Life” by Sebastian Castillo is a novel about a reclusive man in his 30s who is invited to a New Year’s Eve party by a former professor and mentor from an unconventional university in Philadelphia.

It’s a short book; the first half begins with the narrator’s decision to attend the party, followed by his journey, arrival, and departure from the party in the second half.
