The holiday season is a wonderful time to slow down, focus on what matters most, and deepen family connections. It’s a time to tune out the news and tune into what’s right before us. It’s time for steeping our thoughts in deep gratitude for the many blessings we’ve been bestowed. It’s a time for embracing our loved ones, caring for them, nurturing them, seeing the goodness in them, and enjoying quality time with them. It’s a time to come home.

Just as the promise of America as “the shining city on a hill” offers hope and inspiration to its citizens and others around the world, the example of each and every family can shine a light of possibility and goodness within the walls of each home and throughout society at large. Here are a few simple ways to put what’s most important at the forefront, to nurture your family and home, and to embrace what matters this holiday season.

Deck the Halls

Make your home a holiday sanctuary with all the delights of the season that bring joy to your family. Go all out this year, invite friends and family in, and let the spirit of the season wash over your home.

Disconnect

Make it a priority to disconnect from the onslaught of messaging the digital world imposes upon our lives. Turn off notifications, put your phone away, turn off the television, step away from your computer screen, and instead allow your focus to home in on the real life before you.
