Esperanto, one of the first eateries to open on Manhattan’s Avenue C in the Alphabet City, is a place where flavor, comfort, tradition, and ambiance come alive.
Esperanto is reminiscent of Brazil’s meeting spots, the watering holes found along the country’s beaches, those places known as botiquins.
The Manhattan venture’s tropical blue-toned walls, terracotta tile floors, and communal dining tables serve as the perfect foil to experience a bit of shabby chic of the tropics and South America. For those preferring a bit of seclusion, the restaurant has a few semiprivate rooms, the windows concealed by bamboo on the sidewalls. The red, backlit bar adds to the general ambience. Brazilian and Latin American cocktails like the Diablito Verde and Jalepeño-infused margaritas ($9.50), the Caipirinia ($6), and the Mojito Royal ($10) are readily available.
