NEW YORK—Ever since its manager returned from a Buddhist monastery in India a few years ago, Eat, a restaurant in Greenpoint, has been having silent dinners on most Sundays to promote spiritual or personal reflection.

It’s a 90-minute, 4-course ($40) dinner where customers eat in complete silence.

Silent Meals will take place on certain Sundays, at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

Eat, which opened in 2008, sources exclusively from organic local producers.

Its regular menu serves affordably priced organic meals: salad ($8); sandwich ($9); porridge with whole grains served with vegetables ($12); and frittata, an egg casserole served with small salad ($12).
