TAINAN, Taiwan—“Watching Divine Performing Arts (DPA) can enrich our souls and cleanse our hearts. So, I encourage everyone to watch DPA’s performances,” said Shoei-Wen Wong, commissioner of Education Bureau in Tainan, after watching DPA’s fourth show in Tainan on Feb. 22.

Mr. Wong has watched DPA once a year for three years. He said, “DPA’s performances are fantastic every year. You’ll feel marvelous every time, even if you already watched it last year and the year before, because DPA has new programs every year.

“In two-and-a-half hours, DPA presents the essence of Chinese culture and art through the means of truth, goodness, the beauty. So, I feel that I can learn the essence of 5,000 years of Chinese culture in a short time,” he said.

In addition, Mr. Wong said that watching the show, “People can learn the characteristics and arts of ethnic minorities, such as the Yi, Tibetans, and Mongolians.”

Mr. Wong said that he also appreciated the singing of the tenors and sopranos. As for the program, The Monkey King Triumphs, he said, “The program interpreted the legend in a new way, but maintained the original flavor of ancient times. Meanwhile, it performed in an innovative way. I think all are worthy of watching.”

Mr. Wong learned the news of DPA’s coming to Taiwan 10 days ago. When he learned that last year DPA had toured 66 cities and performed 215 shows worldwide, and will tour to 80 cities and perform 300 shows this year, he said, “DPA’s high-quality shows have been unanimously appreciated throughout the world. I deeply admire the breadth of spirit of the producers behind the shows.”
