PASADENA, Calif.—The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company performed at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Dec. 31 as part of their 2009 world tour. Ms Yahm and Ms. Sallow were amongst the audience celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Ms. Yahm of North Park, California works in the entertainment industry as a singer and dancer. She was enthralled by the DPA performance, saying, “I find the dancing fascinating, very talented dancers, very acrobatic, technically superb dancing. The costumes are beautiful… The staging and the dancing and the costumes and the wardrobe [are] just superb.”
“And the music--the orchestra is fantastic. Fascinating, it’s really incredible, a world class orchestra, for sure.”
“I can appreciate the wardrobe changes, and the quickness and the speed of all of those intricate costume [changes that] are put on as quickly as they are backstage. It must take an army of people backstage.”
Ms. Sallow, a photographer from Los Angeles, has photographed many musicians and orchestras over the years. She noticed the difference between the DPA representation of traditional Chinese culture and current day China. She explained, “I’m really enjoying the stories that are unfolding and seeing the culture of China. I visited China about three years ago, and found it very different from what’s being presented here, so its’ very interesting for me to see the culture of what was, which doesn’t exist there now, so I’m enjoying it very much.”
Ms. Sallow also loved the orchestra and added, “The Western and the Eastern instruments blend beautifully.”
The two ladies felt that the computer generated backdrops added a dimension to the performances. Ms. Yahm said, “The backdrops are very artistic, very, very talented.
Ms. Sallow added, “Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The staging with the backdrops are really gorgeous.”
