OTTAWA—Mr. Bashir attended the Divine Performing Arts show Saturday afternoon in Ottawa and expressed his enthusiasm for the performance. He is the general manager of a company involved in trade with China and several North African countries.
“It was amazing and exciting. It’s very beautiful, I mean the dancing, the concept of the show, the arrangement, everything was perfect, really amazing from what I have seen,” said Mr. Bashir.
“The design, the dance, the colour combination, the nature of the music…the music is really amazing. The nature of the Chinese musical instruments and the modern ones…the harmony is really fantastic. I like it very much,” he continued.
He also had high praise for the costumes.
“The costumes are very beautiful, the colour combination is amazing. And also the design, it’s very practical so they dance, they jump, they run, and it’s very comfortable and very beautiful too.”
But when asked about his favourite performance, Mr. Bashir didn’t want to choose.
“All of them are beautiful. I won’t say this is nice and this is not. It’s diversity.”
“I would say that it’s a professional job, it’s very well done”
Mr. Bashir also praised soprano Pi-ju Huang and baritone Qu Yue. He was particularly impressed by Yue.
“He has very strong voice and very muscular voice, very beautiful. I like this kind of voice. The song itself, the lyrics are very good also. Because the meaning, it’s very powerful.”
“I liked the values expressed in the show,” said Mr. Bashir. “The Chinese culture in different perspectives is very interesting, very deep in history and I like it very much.”
“There are many things, like the fashion, the love, the beauty, and the spiritual values. It’s very interesting because in this modern life we need to go back to these things and we need to give support to those values,” he added.
“The compassion, the hope, the peace, I like very much these Chinese values. It’s very nice, deep. I believe in values.”
Another businessman and his wife were similarly impressed. The Blackwells travelled over 100 km to attend the show. Mr. Blackwell led the international division of a large electrical and telecommunications company before retiring. The couple received tickets for the show as a Christmas gift from their children, who were sure they would enjoy it. And they did.
“I thought it was quite nice,” said Ms. Blackwell. “I really liked the soprano and of course the dancing and the colours. The costumes were beautiful.” She said she’d definitely recommend the show to others.
“I concur,” said her husband.
Ms. Blackwell was most impressed with “Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountains” in which dancers vigorously celebrate the joys of Tibetan steepes, spinning, stomping, and steping in an extravagant gesture of welcoming.
