NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—Divine Performing Arts finished it’s third of three shows in New Brunswick’s State Theater
Sunday night, eve of the Chinese New Year. Ms. Gates, a professor of music education
at a prestigious university, gave the show high praise.

“It was excellent, absolutely excellent. It was very professional. It brought a lot of culture and heritage to people who didn’t know about it. Very well done.”

Divine Performing Arts takes its inspiration from 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Many of its dances are based on the country’s amazing wealth of myths, legends and historical stories.

“I enjoyed the national (Chinese) instruments as well as the western instruments—very good,” she said.

The Divine Performing Arts Orchestra begins with a classical Western orchestra as its foundation and augments this with traditional Chinese instruments, enabling its compositions to at once mine the potential of Western orchestral music and yet be rich in Chinese qualities.

“Thank goodness they had a live orchestra because it’s becoming very scarce. Someone who was a professional musician told me the other day that the current trend would be all electronic over the
next ten years. So to have a live orchestra is very important.”

Divine Performing Arts will perform next on the Chinese New Year at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. For more information visit www.DivinePerformingArts.org
