NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—Ms. Okros attended the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) Chinese New Year Specatacular that performed at the New Jersey State Theater on Saturday Jan. 24. She is a dancer of Hungarian extraction and was particularly moved by the ‘Himalayan’ dance. This is a Tibetan dance called Dance of Snow-Capped Mountain that captures life on the Tibetan steppes.

Undaunted by the elements, the dancers of this piece celebrate the joys of the Tibetan steppes as they spin, stomp, and step in an extravagant gesture of welcoming. Long sleeves, sturdy boots, and colorful prayer beads capture the energy of these vibrant people.

Ms. Okros was impressed by the fact that the Divine Performing Arts show revived ancient traditions.

“The ancient traditions that were revived, and I thought that was so meaningful. It was more than just a performer, although the performers were just spectacular. It truly is, it lives up to the word spectacular. I thought the costumes were just breathtakingly beautiful.”

As someone who has a background in folk dancing, she was particularly able to appreciate the costumes.

“I am familiar with the folk dances and the colorful costume set. The story that goes with that, that’s our root, really. This is very meaningful for us. And it’s so nice to see this now, to be revived. So I think you’re onto something here, bringing this back, and then going back to the beginning, how everything, don’t believe everything, the songs, the singers, the messages that we saw. I think it’s fantastic,” she said.
