NAGOYA, Japan—Mr. Kimura, director of a large Japanese television company, was enthralled with the animated backdrops that compliment the dancers and orchestra of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour.
“It really is [nice.] The performance I just saw has some real skills. The dances are very graceful and the backdrops are just astonishing,” he said.
The Divine Performing Arts, which features classical Chinese dancing with a live symphony orchestra, makes use of an innovative animated backdrop. The scenes that unfold on the stage often interact with that backdrop to add another dimension to the performance.
Mr. Kimura saw the show on February 13 at the Aichi Prefectural Art Theater Concert Hall in Nagoya, a unique venue designed after European horseshoe-shaped opera houses.
The television executive said he enjoyed many elements of the show.
“Especially the use of the backdrops, they displayed all of China’s beautiful original features and Chinese historical culture. They could be seen with a glance. It is simply impeccable.”
Upon watching the show, which can last up to three hours depending on the length of the intermission, he said that he wished it could last a little longer.
He said that although he is professional in the digital field himself, he wasn’t exactly looking at the performance as a television professional.
“It is more of a natural response from deep in my heart.”
