FRANKFURT, Germany—Mr. Pache, the president of a financial services company, attended the performance of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour at the Jahrhunderhalle on Saturday, Feb. 21, where the audience showed their appreciation with lots of applause and a standing ovation.

DPA showcase 5,000 years of authentic Chinese culture, from the ancient times through to contemporary China.

Chinese consulate officials in Frankfurt tried to stop people from supporting the internationally acclaimed DPA show, but such action was met with disdain.

Mr. Pache mentioned that he had seen Chinese shows in the past, but he felt that they all promoted the Chinese communist regime. Commenting on the Chinese consulate’s actions trying to stop people from attending the show he said, “In a Western democracy, there is no reason to hinder someone from attending the show. I generally don’t think much of such statements, and they will not hinder my coming to this show.

“ In the last [several] decades this [Chinese communist] regime has kept critics of the regime in its own country under control, as well as partially beyond its borders. This is not welcomed in a Western democracy.”

Mr. Pache felt that it would benefit both the people in the West as well as China if China opens itself more.

Mr. Pache said, “The dances are all very harmonious and vital. They are very well coordinated with the music and impart a good sense of well-being. The movements are very uniform.”

When asked which program impressed him he said it was difficult to say, but added, “Probably the dance with the fans [Welcoming Spring]. Also Mongolian Chopsticks was very beautiful and vital.”

According to the program, Welcoming Spring depicts the warmth of spring as a welcome blessing after winter’s cold in this festive, floral scene. Quick footwork, crisp movements, and stunning bursts of color form the basis of these women’s fan dance and its sense of sheer delight. Its exuberant spirit and marking of the season personify China’s folk dance tradition.

Divine Performing Arts will return to the Jahrhunderhalle in Frankfurt for its second performance on Sunday, Feb. 22, before travelling to Antwerp, Belgium for shows on Feb. 23–25.
