NEW YORK—Green is about to sprout all around the city—starting with St. Paddy’s Day, on March 17. Whether you’re a looking for an evening of folk music or full-blown reveling, there’s an Irish pub in Midtown to suit your tastes.
This year, St. Paddy’s falls on a Sunday, but due to city restrictions, the parade will take place on Saturday, March 16. This makes a convenient excuse for those inclined to extend the festivities. Pubs across the city will be amping up their offerings to welcome the swell of guests. Keep an eye out for leprechauns.

The ubiquitous chain is known for its reliable service and casual vibe.
“The name is the big thing,” said manager Cormac McCormack. “Customers know it’s a good bar, and they know what they’re getting.”
What they’re getting is basic Irish fare such as fish and chips, chicken pot pie, shepherd’s pie, and a house special of barbecued pulled pork.
Here, the ceiling extends upward to an open atrium with balcony seating upstairs. The décor is inspired by the bars in Dublin, and a decorative gate in the front is a replica of the Guinness factory gate.
Pig ‘N’ Whistle has four other locations in the city: one near Rockefeller Center; and two on the East side in the 50s. Don’t let the fact that it’s a chain fool you, though—each one has its own flair and personality.
