MELBOURNE—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ performers received a standing ovation from a very enthusiastic audience at the majestic Regent theatre on March 2.
Shen Yun, a world touring show, aims to revive China’s 5,000 year old culture through classical Chinese dance, hi-tech backdrops, handmade costumes, vocalists, and an orchestra blending to great effect both Chinese and Western instruments.
Tenor and associate manager Guiman Guimin gave an encore. Mr. Guiman says that ancient Chinese people believed that their culture was passed down by gods and he finds that Shen Yun’s performances are becoming growingly popular all over the world.
This also struck a chord with Marina Loza “There’s lots of belief [in the show], belief in God I suppose. There’s lots of songs. I like the meanings of the songs; we chase life, we chase wealth, we want to be wealthy, and we forget who we are and what the true life is about.”
Ms. Loza is an energetic business lady with several websites and 2 importing businesses ‘No Worries Blinds’ and ‘No Worries Turf’. Ms. Loza loved the show very much.
“I loved it. Very beautiful, the costumes were fantastic, choreography was excellent, everything was beautiful, very beautiful show.”
What impressed Ms. Loza most was the dance with the fans, Plum Blossom, “That was really beautiful, very colourful and very joyful.—The girls are very beautiful.”
Classical Chinese dance is impressive to any audience regardless of age and ethnic background.
The colourful costumes and spectacular dance movements are what captivate some. While for others, the enjoyment is found in acrobatic leaps or a dance’s rich choreography.
Ms. Loza wondered “I didn’t know that the jumps actually originated from Chinese dance. I thought they were acrobatic moves, but they said that it was actually originated from Chinese dance. Lots of things, just about the history, the monks, it was really good.”
Ms. Loza felt Shen Yun was a wonderful history lesson and was important to and for the Chinese people.
“I think just to showcase the history of China, from ancient to present, that what’s important to Chinese people.”
