Since Mauritania is a desert, you can expect a hot temperature all year round. However, the country experiences a short rainy season which takes place from months of July to September. The cooler months which run from November to March is considered by some as the best time to visit Mauritania. During these months the temperature drops from 45 degrees to 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

Also, in view of the fact that Mauritania is mostly composed of Muslims, its people do not celebrate colorful festivals like its neighboring African countries, only Islam festivals like Ramadan which is a month long fasting period. If you are interested in something laid back, you could coordinate with local guides to set you up with bird watching excursions or lend you gear for trout fishing.

But if you are into water sports, you could engage in some diving, kite boarding, surfing, and even boat racing. There are also a few landmarks in the area you could check out to fill in those idle moments like the local national park as well as the old Spanish buildings at La Guera.
