Artists Sing High Praises of Shen Yun

CHICAGO—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company continued its Chicago season at the Civic Opera House, delighting performing artists who attended the evening show on Friday April 22.

Gina Dunhan is a former ballerina and understands very well the caliber of skills required in dancing.

“I loved it—it was beautiful,” she said. “The dancers are very talented. It’s very difficult a lot of the feats that they did—going into pirouette, into a turn, into a jump … It was fantastic!”

Ms. Dunhan’s husband, Mitchell Douglas, agreed.

“I don’t know that much about dance, but I know talent when I see it. And these people are talented, very talented,” He said. “The timing was impeccable, that’s what I thought was amazing—they were turning and stopping and everything was perfect.”

The New York-based company travels around the world, reviving China’s lost art forms destroyed under communism rule, through the highest levels of classical Chinese dance.

What stood out for both Ms. Dunhan and Mr. Douglas was the Plum Blossom dance. Plum blossom is a small flower, but very resilient and much loved by the Chinese people.

“The Plum dance was the most fantastic performance I have ever seen,” Mr. Douglas said. “It was very inspiring, I really enjoyed it. He thought the dancers were extremely talented, “They deserve a full house every night.”
