Beauty is too often cited by hyperbolic PRs seeing in nice music something more than it possesses. The press release accompanying Ring doesn’t need to mention beauty, its presence is self-evident after one listen to this ethereal gem. Released on in-form label True Panther Sounds, Cameron Mesirow’s debut at times calls to mind the otherworldly weirdness of The Knife and Fever Ray, while often also channelling the Cocteau Twins at their blissful late 80s best. But it is the inventive instrumentation that marks this record out as somewhat different from anything else. Extra credit for classy use of a glockenspiel.
