There are some interesting moments here. ’Burn’ has a strong theme (anti-nuclear weapons), a reasonably clear sound, and a rousing electric guitar solo from guest collaborator Billy TK. ‘This World’ features a short but intriguing rap from guest MC Georgia Ann Muldrow, which speaks of spiritual planes and removing bad habits. But other than that this self-titled debut album from New Zealand outfit Electric Wire Hustle drifts along in its own spacey, hazy world, and does little to set the pulse racing. Vocalist Mara TK fails to convince as the ultra-smooth love machine, with lyrics such as “I would walk 1,000 miles just to hold your hand”.
