A United Kingdom group distributed 100 cameras to homeless people in London and the results are pretty amazing.
Cafe Art, the group, gave out Fujifilm disposable cameras and also arranged for basic training from the Royal Photographic Society.
The camera recipients were told to take pictures with the theme “My London.”
In the end, 80 of the 100 cameras were returned, and around 2,500 photos were developed. From those, 20 were chosen by a panel of judges. A Kickstarter campaign to turn the finalists into a 2016 calendar has raised almost $9,000, more than the original goal.
All the finalists received a $75 prize, with $75 more coming if their picture makes it into the calendar.
“All the money raised goes back into the project,” Cafe Art says, “either to pay for the printing of the photographs and calendar, rewarding the winning photographers, buying art materials for art groups affected by homelessness or helping individuals attend art courses.”
