Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2013: Raising Awareness About Disease

October 1, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2013 is all about raising awareness about the disease.

The month “is a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services,” according to the official website.

The organization, The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, started more than 25 years ago.

Although a lot of progress has been made fighting the disease, much remains to be accomplished.

“Although October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NBCAM is dedicated to raising awareness and educating individuals about breast cancer throughout the year. We encourage you to regularly visit these sites to learn more about breast cancer, breast health, and the latest research developments.”

Organizations participating in the month include:

American Cancer Society, The American Medical Women’s Association, Men Against Breast Cancer, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
