Hikers
Crete attracts a lot of walkers; if this sounds like you then you will likely want to stay within a short distance from the White Mountains. There are a few small villages near here where you can find accommodation such as Omalos, Sougia and Loutro or the Kallergi Mountain Lodge. There are limited places to stay in these areas but they are well equipped for the needs of hikers.
Beach Bums
If you want great beaches then Crete is the place to go. The two main beaches are Vai and Preveli, but these have become quite commercialised over recent years. Komos beach is a great, quieter alternative for those that prefer less touristy beaches.
Culture Vultures
Crete’s places of cultural interest are spread across the island so you will need to travel if you intend on seeing them all. Knossos, Phaistos and Iraklio are some of the hotspots you will want to visit so basing yourself at one of these and exploring further afield is advised.
Crete has a rich and varied landscape and culture and there really is something for everyone. Do a bit of research before you visit to find your ideal base location and accommodation type. Book your flights, find your base and enjoy everything the island has to offer.
