Supporters had titled the initiative ‘Protect Kids of California,’ but Attorney General Bonta made it say ‘Restricts Rights.’ The judge seems to favor Bonta.
‘We have a right as a board to defy a dictatorial governor and bureaucracy … that tries to take away our rights as parents and as citizens,’ a trustee said.
The bill’s author said she was targeting “material that our own federal government considers too obscene for adults to hear or view on radio and television.”
The state ordered Murietta Valley Unified to rescind the policy. A dozen SoCal districts have adopted similar rules; one was sued by the attorney general.
