CALGARY, Alberta—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company concluded its finale of Chinese classical dance, costumes, music, and culture at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Easter Monday.
Among the packed audience was Ms. Blue, artistic director of a professional dance company in Calgary.
“Oh, it’s amazing. It’s beautiful. It’s visually stunning. I loved the costumes and the backdrops—that computerized set design the entire show—I’ve never seen it, ever, a whole backdrops animation. I’ve just never seen it,” she said during intermission referring to Shen Yun’s 3-D hand-controlled backdrops.
“It’s such a creative way of using a set, having the entire backdrops tell the story—completely animated. That is a two-hour animated movie in itself and plus the spectacular choreography and the costumes—gorgeous.”
Ms. Blue said that she will certainly let her general manager know about the backdrops. “She is going to flip out.”
“It’s stunning, and it’s really commendable to ensure the culture. You are talking millennia and millennia of Chinese culture that is being fought to be preserved. It’s amazing, and it’s amazing that they are carrying it onto the stage. It’s visually sumptuous.”
Shen Yun takes its inspiration from China’s 5,000-year history. The dance company takes as its mission to revive the essence of China’s performing arts.
