Artist Jamie Harkins works out of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. His art expresses diverse styles and themes; however, he is mostly known for his surrealist landscapes, bright colors, and treatment of light.
Harkin uses a technique called anamorphosis to display 2-D illustrations in 3-D. The viewer must observe the art from a specific angle for the illusion to work.
On the beach, Harkins’s drawings don’t look like much more than a child’s doodle, but viewed from afar one can see intricate images of sailboat, docks, and more. He also adds to the 3-D experience by having real people position themselves as though they are “inside” the boats or interacting with the objects in his drawings in other ways.
