NEW YORK—It’s not finalized, but those in the loop say El Sombrero, a staple on the Lower East Side for 30 years, is closing permanently.
The closure may happen in November. Ev Grieve, an East Village blog, noticed a change in ownership Community Board 3’s October agenda, which lists Artichoke Basille’s Pizza as a new tenant.
Eater NY reported that there was a rent increase and many long-term customers left the neighborhood due to gentrification.
